5 Questions to Ask When Buying New Bag Stands

June 19, 2019 by Joy Ball

There used to be the day where your members would lean a full-sized golf bag against a bag stand on the driving range. Times have changed. Now they leave the bag in the cart and take a handful clubs and rest them against the stand. The bag stand now is really a club stand where a water bottle, and maybe a cellphone is resting, as well as other necessities that are provided for the player; tees, alignments and a clean towel. The stand also keeps the range looking organized and gives the players a good personal space to practice.

So, what are some questions that you should be asking before making the investment into updating the stands on your driving range? Here are 5 things that we’ve have put together that you should consider.

Material is the most important thing to think about because whatever you purchase, you want it to last more than a few years… Metal is the best choice because it will last the longest (7-10 year) (just say ‘no’ to plastic or wood). There’s very little maintenance involved (no staining). We choose to use only metal not because we don’t like the look of wood new, but because wood weathers and doesn’t look good for long.

Powder Coat -The type of powder coat that you pick determines how long your stands will last without refurbishing. It’s good to pick a textured powder coat that’s scratch resistant and one that we have an exact match for touch up paint. There are several powder coats that we can provide an aerosol can that you do a quick spray on a scratch. We have different shades of brown to give a wood-like look. The best seller is BR47 and is a semi-texture powder coat.

Weight -If you move the stands daily a great length you might want to consider a lighter weight bag stand or if you absolutely love the A-frame twisted metal, then you can move them around easily with dollies. Square tube will be lighter than twisted metal. If you only move the stands a short distance to mow, then any style/tubing works.

Storage -If you store the stands in a small cart barn in the winter, you might want to consider a bag stand that stacks well (upright bag stands & kick plate styles). If you have more room, then A-frame stands work great.

Cleaning -With RHI bag stands, we recommend wiping them down with a soft cloth. If there’s ever water stains, a cloth with a little denatured alcohol will work great or a gentle cleaner such as Goof Off Wipes. Like anything that you want to last, it’s important to take care of them by cleaning regularly.

Suncadia Project

May 17, 2019 by Joy Ball

It was great working with Suncadia on their driving range accessory project this season! Our shipping crew was shipping lightening fast and I didn’t get a chance to take photos of all of their products. So it was great when the Suncadia team sent a few.

Here’s the few that I took at RHI Golf HQs. Their logo pops so nicely against the brown semi-texture powder coat. Then again I am partial to yellow..

Directional Arrow Ideas

April 24, 2019 by Joy Ball

Are you needing to direct your members, but you’re the type of private club that has almost no signage on your course? Keep that natural look with understated arrows or signs that could be mounted on a rock. We have so many ideas that we can suggest to you so you get your message across without taking the attention away from your immaculately maintained course.

Here’s a long arrow (20″) but it stay understated because 1) it’s short and flush with the turf 2) it blends in with the natural rust, but the red details grabs the members’ attention at the same time.

Now you can leave the arrow single sided, but if you want to make it double sided there’s 2 options. 1st option is to let the hardware show like in the below photo. Hardware is inevitable at least on one side of the arrow. In this case, I think it looks like an added beaded detail embracing the Native American theme. 2nd option is to hand-paint the screws. This works with most colors, but it is painted not powder coated so it’s something that might need to be touched up (depends on how they’re cared for). We recommend leaving the screws bare.

Here’s the newly update gallery for custom directional signage. Take a look and get a creative idea that will work well at your course! As always, our prices are extremely reasonable for the high-end quality and presentation.

Custom Tournament Awards

April 3, 2019 by Joy Ball

Looking for inspiration for awards for your next tournament? Well, then this blog is for you. We’re all geared up here at RHI for the Spring & Summer trophy season as you seen from the oodles of photos in this post.

As you can tell, we get a lot of unique requests. Rhode Island CC wanted to give out a ‘world series’ themed trophy, so we made this 2′ version.

Desert Highlands did a few different awards for their March tournaments. We also made some of their range accessories earlier in the year. Here’s the awards that they did for their putting championship, couples event and their club championship.

Below is the trophy that Spanish Oaks Golf Club did for their ‘Couple O’Nuts’ tournament and then the shootout award is for their ‘Spanish Revolver’ tournament.

Desert Mountain in Scottsdale Arizona had us make tomahawk trophies for the 3rd year. This year we mixed it up a little and used a new tomahawk. Doesn’t it look nice?

Rest assured, this foot doesn’t smell.. This trophy is for a local client, Spokane Falls Community College.

This trophy is for Redstick Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida. This trophy had an extensive amount of design time involved and there was a lot of thought put into it by our client.

Then there’s the lamp post award for Carmel Country Club, awards for the charity tournament ‘Mulligans for Maggie’ held at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards. Also, featured is the wine barrel award for Champions Retreat.

Shootout awards are one of our most popular. Here’s what we did for ‘With Open Eyes’, The Clubs at Cordillera Ranch, and Florida Golf Association.

We had fun with PGA West Private’s superhero theme for the couples tournament!!

The awards turned out beautiful for Wilderness Country Club in Naples, Florida. These are 2 of my favorites from the last 9 years.

Next, our the awards that we did for Blackstone Country Club and Verde River & Social Club.

Then there’s the awards that we did for different clients that had a master’s theme to it.

Lastly are the awards for Squire Creeks’ Azalea tournament, Wendy Novak Diabetes Center plaques, and the horse race awards for Anthem Country Club.

Tournament & Every Day Tee Markers

March 1, 2019 by Joy Ball

Invest in tee markers that will look great on your tee boxes for years to come. Our custom designs take your presentation to the next level..

We’re excited to share with you the Frost Creek tee markers. We made the tee markers in the shape of their logo and it gives a unique look.

On these we painted the screws for a clean look.

Next are the tee markers that we made for Old Elm Club and Woodland Country Club.

PGA West ordered 2 sets to start of these tee markers and liked them so much that they ordered 2 additional sets this week.

Here are a few other tee markers that we made for our amazing clients!

Here’s the canoe tee marker that we made recently for  The River Club in Georgia. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but it’s a 3D tee marker.

We’ve waited awhile to show you the tee markers that we made for Broadmoor. Love the gate tee markers!

Thanks for reading our blog posts!!!

Tee Markers -BLOG POST

February 6, 2019 by Joy Ball

Is there talk about updating your club’s tee markers?

Most courses want their logo on all of their tee markers. The Crosby chose to have their logo on their forward tees and then the rest of the tee markers embrace the music theme at the club. All of the markers are powder coated brown -BR47 for a consistent look. The music notes indicate the tee color so that the color is noticeable, but not obnoxious.

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club have done tee markers for years from us. This year they decided to switch to circle tee markers that stake into the ground. These markers are double sided and we’ve inset their logo.

Below are the extra tee markers that we made for Westwood’s board members.

The Pines Country Club chose to highlight their established date on their tee markers. It’s a clean and minimalist way to brand their markers.

Below are the tournament tee markers that we made for Cal State and Arizona University.

Bag Stands -Behind the Scenes Blog

January 25, 2019 by Joy Ball

Opening Day is coming up quick, so this is a great time to get your next driving range improvement project on the books! Call us at 208.635.5203 ext. 102

Today’s blog is going to focus on bag stands. We have about 5 styles that are usually requested, but every once in a while we’ll have a customer who wants something completely out of the box (we love that). We re-did the driving range accessories for The Clubs at Cordillera Ranch in Boerne, Texas. The star of the show on this project are the cowboy bag stands. Notice all of the details in the hat and the spurs. This stand is designed to hold a few clubs and not a full bag (that’s what they’re used for most of the time anyway).

This blog is labeled ‘bag stands’, but we have to show you some of the other range accessories that Cordillera Ranch did that ties in this ‘ranch/western’ theme together. Consistency on the range is key..

The 1/2 barrel ball baskets that we make look like whisky barrels and fit about 200 balls (2 sizes available). The dividers that we made were of high-quality and thick rope with horseshoes on either end, which fits great for this course’s theme. Then there’s the club cleaning station and driving range A-frame clock. All of their products were powder coated  a semi-texture brown for durability and to give a rustic look.

Another Texas client, Westwood Golf Club had us customize the ‘upright square bar bag stand’ that we make. The cup holder fits their club’s cups perfectly. This stand gives a nice clean look to their range. Simplistic is perfect sometimes, don’t you think?

Desert Mountain Club is one of our many Scottsdale, Arizona clients. They chose an ‘upright twisted bag stand‘. In this style we use 1″ twisted metal bar for a beautiful look. There’s 2 holes for alignment rods on the half-circle portion and a cup holder behind the logo. We also used a brown semi-texture non this.

For PGA WEST Private Clubhouse & Golf Courses in La Quinta, California we did the ‘upright square bar bag stand‘. This is one of our clients who likes to use Dark Bronze as their powder coat. It has a slight shimmer to it if you look really close in person. Most of the time it looks dark brown if your eye balls aren’t directly glued to it, though.

We re-did the range for Whirlwind Golf Club. We’ve made their wine barrel range targets a few years ago which was a great start, but this time we were asked to make their bag stands, ball baskets, club cleaning stations, clocks, signs & trash can enclosures. Here’s a peak at their ‘A-frame square bar bag stand’. They have a beautiful oven basket logo, but they decided on their stands to keep it simple with just their name. Here’s a photo on our office lawn and then on their range.

Thanks for reading our blog, and we’ll make sure to post again soon! There’s a lot more exciting custom projects in the works!!
