Spring Time?

March 8, 2013 by Joy Ball

Seems like Spring was finally here last week, and then we got some snow yesterday morning?  Oh well, in at least one regard Spring is obviously here, and that is reflected in courses getting ready for the coming golf season!  We’re busier than we’ve ever been – and having a great time building tournament trophies, contest markers, and all sorts of outside-of-the-box requests for everything around the golf course or Pro Shop!  Here are a few of the things we’ve been working on in the last week – and lots more to come!

First up are a couple trophies.  We built these trophies for Anthem last year, and they needed more for this year.  Yes, those are real bullet holes in the Champion trophies.  Will and I took them out in the hills, and brushed up on our marksmanship!  Lots of fun…  The other trophies are for Meadow Club, we’ve done them in the past – but they wanted something a little different this year.

We’ve had a huge number of proximity markers and tee marker contest announcement signs lately.  There are a lot of them still being powdercoated, but here are some of them that we finished this week.

Here are a couple custom signs for the new putting course at Seaview.  Lots of text, they’ll mount these to existing posts.

Here are some signs we made for the TaylorMade Performance Labs.  There are several signs for them to use on the instruction range, where they can slide-in a sheet with the student’s name on it.  Then there is a simple Hours of Operation sign.  This logo turned out amazing!  At eight (!) layers deep, it’s definitely got the current record for number of layers.

The Gallery asked us for some rolling racks that they could hang clothing from and roll in/out of the pro shop.

And finally, two completely different styles of putter/club racks – one for the Gallery and one for TPC – San Antonio.

Have a great weekend!

Sorry, it’s been a while…

February 21, 2013 by Joy Ball

We’ve been swamped for the last couple months, and I realized I haven’t posted any pictures in quite a while – so, here’s a few of things we’ve been working on…  First off is some really cool tee markers we did for Brian Griffiths Golf Academy in the Netherlands.

We did a giant pile of range spacers for Des Moines Golf Club:

The Gallery has been keeping us busy here is a bunch of different items for them.

First up were some award plaques and a perpetual plaque for thier Member-Member tournament called The Compadre.

Then some custom signage for around the resort.  A sign for the 9th tee to call in food to pick up at the turn, and another set of signs that go in front of their guest cottages where they can drop in a sign with the guest’s name, and a set of easels where they can put posters, signs, etc.

Some custom signs for Hayden Lake and Larel Creek.  Laurel Creek has assigned parking spaces for their Men and Women’s Club Champions…

Hidden Valley asked for a couple different big sizes of their logo to mount on walls around the property.  The big one is about 6′ wide, and the small one is 4′.

Some more awards.  I posted the renderings for these in the previous post, here is the finished product for Osage National and Seaview…

There were some more custom course signage for Manito.  They wanted signs for the Par 3’s where they could post the days’ yardages.  What a great way to speed up play!  We also did a pro shop sign and some proximity markers for Whitemarsh.

A really nice lady (and apparently a great wife!) called us to inquire about custom accessories that she could buy to give her husband as a Valentine’s Day present.  Apparently he has a simulator setup in his garage, and she wanted some gear to help deck the place out.  Here’s a custom sign, a range ball box, and a small table for him to set his laptop on.  Happy Valentine’s Day, indeed!

Finally, our friend Kathy Jensen asked us to help create a unique piece that she could use for demonstrations at a trade show and awards presentation.  We created this custom treasure chest.  The interior is leather lined, and in the lid we mounted a digital screen that can display pictures and videos.  This one was a lot of fun to build!

Let us know if we can help with anything to get ready for Spring!

Happy 2013!

January 11, 2013 by Joy Ball

Happy New Year from everyone here at RHI, hope everyone had a great holiday season!  Thank you for helping us have a great 2012, and we look forward to working with you in the coming year.

It’s been a few weeks since I put up any pictures of the things we’ve been working on, so here we go in no particular order…

First up is a perpetual trophy.  Sea Oaks and Seaview have a tournament every year called “Battle of the Seas”.  They asked for kind of a nautical themed trophy, here is what we came up with.  Funny coincidence, but while I was just uploading these pictures, we received the following email from Brian Rashley, the Head Pro at Seaview – “Wow, is all I have to say about the Battle of the Seas Trophy… it blew my mind when I saw the size and detail.  It’s awesome, and has been getting all sorts of attention…”  Thanks, Brian, that’s what we love to hear!

The people at CRU Golf asked from some help building display pieces for use at the PGA Show in a couple weeks.  For the big display sign, the white background is actually a large piece of white leather they sent us.  The other piece is for them to display their custom headcovers.  See you at the show!

Here are a couple sample tee markers and a proximity marker that we sent to Global Golf Sales.  This might be one of the more ‘intricate’ logos we’ve done.

A couple of “Southern” Awards.  First are some sample trophies and plaques for the SouthernSwing Tour, and the second is an award plaque for Southern Dunes.

The Gallery has been keeping us very busy with all sorts of projects.  Here is a range yardage sign with removeable numbers,  garbage can enclosures, clock and thermometer signs, new bag stands for their practice facility, and a set of ‘family tees’.

Some Bag Drop directional signs for the guys at TPC – San Antonio.

And finally, at least for now, we have some scorecard/amenities boxes that we did for the Vintage Club.

New This Week!

December 13, 2012 by Joy Ball

Been a little while since I’ve posted some of the projects we’ve been working on, I’ve been busy getting our new brochure put together and our new stock item online store up and running…

First up are these tee markers that we did for Ball State University.  These were a lot of fun and turned out great!

Next were a bunch of different Proximity Markers and KP signs (or Tee Announcements, whatever you want to call them :) )

Darien CC:

Floridian:

The Cliffs:

And some great new ones (including the new-style closest to the pin Proximity Marker) for Ocean Reef Club

We had a request for a “shadow box” type presentation for a hole in one award.  There were places for the lucky ball, the scorecard, and a photo…

Some trophies for the Tumble Creek Cup:

New Tee Markers for Shorehaven…

Some replacement signs to go on the tee signs at Quintero out of polished Stainless Steel – will look great for a long time!

And finally new Tee Monument signs for Southern Dunes, which is owned by the Ak-Chin nation of Native Americans.  Each sign contains the yardage to the hole from the tee box and other information, but then also the Ak-Chin name for the hole, as well as a translation into English.  These signs were a lot of fun!   They then took each of these signs and mounted them on custom brick/masonry walls and planter beds that they added at each hole.  I’m sure they look amazing.

I guess that’s everything for now.  There’s a lot of new stuff in progress that I hope we’ll get at least one more post up yet this year!

Trophies, Bag Stands and Miniflags!

October 22, 2012 by Joy Ball

Looks like it’s been a couple weeks since I updated this, but here are some of the things we’ve been working on.

First up are some great trophies that we did for Salishan.  These start out as a piece of steel pipe that Will works his magic on until they look like old tree stumps.  They’re heavy, but look amazing!  We did individual trophies for the winners, and then some large perpetual trophies that they can add the winners’ names to each year.

Then we did bag stands for Whisper Rock’s practice range.  This was a new design for us that they requested, but it seems sturdy, strong, looks great and is cost effective!

Here are some putting green miniflags for Quintero.  I love this copper vein powdercoating!

Here is a sign for one of the private rooms at Hayden Lake CC.  There is a place where the club can slide in a nametag for the person/group who has the room reserved.

Thanks again for a great summer season!  Hope everyone has a good week.

In the shop last week…

September 24, 2012 by Joy Ball

Here are a few of the things we’ve shipped in the last week…

First up are some additional signs for Wykygyl Country Club.  They wanted some custom range signage that they could swap the numbers on to indicate when the practice facility was scheduled to close each night.  They also wanted a sign to designate an area for instruction only.

Teaching Area Only Sign - Wykygyl CC

Next we have a new bag stand design for Whisper Rock.

Another Arizona course, Firerock, had some of our first miniflags that we built.  After three years of hard use, the finish needed some touching up.  It’s easy and cost-effective for us to re-powdercoat our products and they are as good as new – ready for several more years of service!

The Grove orderd closest to the pin and proximity markers…

We did a perpetual plaque for a Ladies Club Championship at Loch Nairn.

Finally, one or our sales reps asked for a point of sale display for Bodega Harbor with the course logo and co-branded with the Antigua logo.

Hope everyone has a good week!  Thanks for helping us have a great summer!

John Rutecki from Metedeconk National discusses using RHI’s Range Yardage Tents with GRAA magazine!

September 7, 2012 by Joy Ball

John Ruteck, Metedeconk National

Our friend, John Rutecki – the Head Pro at Metedeconk National, was recently interviewed for the “Best Practices” section of the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA) magazine.  In it, he discussed the importance of using RHI’s Custom Yardage ‘Tents’ on his practice facility.

These are the tents he is talking about:

Here’s the text from the article, thanks John!

Use Custom Yardage Tents to Simulate Real Golf Shots

John Rutecki on the importance of using custom yardage tents to simulate real golf shots:

When you drive through the entrance of our club, the first thing that catches your eye is our impressive practice facility. The practice area altogether is 50 acres long, consisting of multiple driving range locations, an uneven lies area, a short game area and a putting green. Because I wanted to simulate actual golf play for our members, we decided to add our short game area. First, we modified one of the three target greens to allow for multiple chipping stations (all with various options to help simulate missing a green on the golf course). This helps with the player’s understanding of different slopes and lies while chipping. The next step was to use custom yardage tents on the short game area to mark different distances for chipping. These little tents sit on the ground and stand out when people are using this area. They have a stencil that displays the yardage mark and it flashes so that everyone can see this very easily. It’s something unique because most facilities don’t offer markers from 40, 60, and 80 yards out from the green. The yardage tents have become an attraction, and many members seem to like to make a game out of hitting to them while preparing for their round, or just during some practice time. I think having the ability to practice certain shots really helps with player development as well. It certainly adds to our already-impressive practice facility and gives players some food for thought while working on their short game.

John Rutecki on the business impact of using custom yardage tents to simulate real golf shots:

The yardage tents and the overall short game area have really enhanced the facility experience for both members and their guests. There aren’t many places where you can simulate shots from 10 yards to 130 yards from the pin, and we think it’s become integral in prepping yourself for actual golf shots that you would be taking on the course. My lesson business has been wonderful because I’m aided by the extravagant practice facility. These lessons make up roughly 25 percent of my business, whereas last year that number was only around 10 percent of my total business. The custom tents are relatively inexpensive and do not require any maintenance. An idea like this sends the message that you care about your member’s golf games, and it adds to the value and credibility of the club.
