Orlando PGA Show – Day 1

Reid’s in Orlando at the national PGA merchandise show this week.  He’s getting away from the snow here, checking out the competition, meeting with our sales reps, and getting together with some past and future clients.  Here’s a handful of pictures he sent back to the shop to remind us that we’re not having nearly as much fun as he is…  :)

Here’s Reid and Mossimo Giannulli of Mossimo clothing and G/Fore golf gloves. We’ve done some work for Mossimo in the past year, and Reid’s old college teammate and roommate, Ricky Barnes, exclusively wear’s G/Fore’s unique colored gloves.

Here’s the Barrington display piece that we made last week. Looks like it got to them just in time for the show…

Here’s a couple shots from the display of our friends at Travis Mathew.  First up is their sweet touring truck/bus.  It’s got a bar inside!  I’m lobbying Reid to let us start working on outfitting one of those for next year’s show.  He says we’ll probably have to sell a few more sets of tee markers first…  Then, Reid spotted one of the display pieces that we built for Travis Mathew last year.

We’ll have to wait and see if he gets anything else good tomorrow.

New “Casino” Course designs…

We’ve had a few requests from facilities that operate both a casino and a golf course for some tee marker concepts that incorporate a casino feel.  Here are a couple design ideas, a large dice and a playing card.  The large dice could have a course’s logo incorporated into one face of the die, and the playing card shown here has Circling Raven’s (a great local course and casino) logo.

An example of a 'Casino' course tee marker. Another casino course tee sign with the Circling Raven logo.

Here’s a new bag stand design that uses some twisted steel.  The twisted steel is very heavy and durable and is a great look for reasonably priced range accessories.

A new driving range bag stand design. Reasonably priced and very sturdy.

We use what we call “fishscale” (a process of grinding and polishing) on aluminum all the time.  For this Barrington leather point of sale display we tried fishscaling some steel.  It’s a more subtle look than on the aluminum, but I really like it.

We do 'fishscaled' aluminum all the time, but this fishscaled steel turned out great.

Lastly, here’s a couple recent signs we’ve finished up for Malibu.  The colored arrows against the natural rust looks pretty cool.

Another directional sign for Malibu Country Club. The natural rust is great! Another Malibu sign.

Tee Markers, Point of Sale Displays and Trophies…

Here is a set of tournament tee markers that we are building for Sterling Bank.  They are the corporate sponser for the Pacific Northwest section of the PGA, so these will get used at all of the section events this summer.  They are what we call a ‘fish-scaled” aluminum which means the guys take a grinder and custom grind/polish each one.  It’s a unique look that turns out great!

In our first year we did a bunch of Point-of-Sale Displays for the guys at Travis Mathew clothing.  Then last year we did a different design.  This year we are currently finalizing the design on some shoe shelf displays.  Anyway, they said that they needed a few extra of the first design, so we knocked those out this week.  Hopefully we’ll have some of the shoe displays to show soon, too.

I was going through the camera and found this picture.  It was a tournament perpetual trophy that we built for the Interclub Championship for the guys at Troon Golf.  It turned out pretty amazing, and the real reason I wanted to post a picture was to just show a comparison between the original rendering, and the final project (sorry, the pic’s a little blurry).  Just another example that when you order from RHI, you will always have free renderings showing exactly how your custom design will look before anything gets made.

New Proximity Marker Design!

The best just keeps getting better! For 2012, we’ve listened to everyone’s suggestions and made some tweaks to our Proximity Marker design…

It’s the same durable, steel holster with the pen and tape measure holders that we had before. That part hasn’t changed. What is new is the card. On the old version of the marker, the card and the plexiglass were seperate pieces. The card slid in behind the plexiglass – you wrote on the card, and the plexiglass protected the card from weather and sprinklers.

On the new version of the card, the plexiglass and the card are a single unit. Now you write directly on the plexiglass instead of the card. There are several benefits to this.

  • This gives us several new options for writing instruments.  The old card was limited to wet erase markers, which are not that common.  By writing on the plexiglass, you can now use wet erase, dry erase, grease pencil, even a Sharpie.
  • Dry erase markers, although they easily wipe up with a touch, are surprisingly durable in the wet.  They don’t run in the rain or if they get hit by sprinklers.
  • A Sharpie can be used.  This is a little more difficult to cleanup, but it wipes right off with a little xylene, paint thinner, or some other solvent.
  • If, in the event, the plexiglass does eventually become dirty or scratched, you can now cheaply and easily replace the plexiglass instead of having to replace your expensive logo’ed aluminum card.
  • Because we’re no longer writing on the card, we can now make it any color – no more white cards only!

In addition to the changes to the design, we’ve also heard you asking for some more ‘stock’ options at lower price points.  With this new design there are now 5 different versions and prices for our Proximity Markers.

1.  Our ‘value’ option.  This consists of just the holster, without a card.  You can easily tape a piece of paper to the holster for recording names, while still having the convenience of the pen and tape measure holders in an attractive and durable marker.  For orders of 6 or more – holsters can be ordered in any color.  For smaller orders, we are limited to black or white.  This version is a great value at $25.00!

2.  We add a brushed aluminum card.  The card will have a rounded area at the top where you can easily add a sticker or something for your logo.  The brushed aluminum is a great look and it saves the cost of powdercoating the card.  This version is available for $40.00.

Basic Proximity Marker 2

3.  The card is still brushed aluminum, but now we add your custom logo.  This is where we can get creative and truly make your piece fit into your overall look and design.  Most logos will be cut at $55.00.  Exceptionally intricate logos may require a small upcharge.

Basic Proximity Marker 3

4.  This is our ‘standard’ option.  This is your custom logo on the card and both the card and the holster can be powdercoated any color.  This is a great addition to any tournament kit, and an exceptional value at $65.00!

Basic Proximity Marker 4

5.  We can take your design to the next level.  Special requests like additional text cut into the card, multi-layer logos, additional color backplates, etc. can all be designed and accommodated.  Contact us for pricing on these truly custom pieces.

Don’t forget that A-frame KP signs make a great pair with your proximity markers, and as we said in our last post, we’ve also designed new carrying and storage options for both the KP signs and the proxies.  You can download our new flyer, which shows some of our new price options either here, or via the link at the right.
